Description

Gum 37 / RCW 54c is a diffuse HII emission region with the adjacent star cluster NGC 3572 in the Southern Hemisphere. Situated in the southern constellation of Carina this is region that is often overlooked due to the presence of the more popular and brighter Statue of Liberty nebula. Gum 37 contains the “Southern Tadpoles” adjacent to NGC 3572. Typical of many of the southern hemisphere gems there is limited information on this deep sky object. NGC 3572 spans 100 light-years across and is 9,000 light-years away.

This is a Telescope Live dataset with their new QHY600M full frame CMOS cameras - in this case mounted on a PlaneWave CDK-24 telescope Located at the El Sauce Observatory in Chile.

Approximately 5 hrs total integration (10x600s each on Astrodon 3nm Ha, Sii, and Oiii) filters, so not a very deep look at this object, but the Telescop.Live CMOS cameras have been installed only in the month previous, so I expect this dataset to grow over time.

This is a SHO palette; I considered an HOO or HSO, but the red of Ha just dominated the image while SHO gave some needed variance/nuance.

I reworked the color a bit to shift to more blue and less cyan(ish) tone to the nebula.  I think this looks a better to the eye.  I did do a complete reprocess.
